Art Class at Saints Philip and James School is based on the NYS Standards for the Arts. Students explore themes and symbols that connect to their own lives. They also learn about the key elements of art—like line, color, texture, and shape—to express their ideas and look closely at the world around them. The curriculum encourages students to think about and discuss various artworks, using art vocabulary to critique and understand how art reflects different cultures and historical times. Through all these activities, students not only build their artistic skills but also develop critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, self-expression, and an appreciation for diverse cultures.
Media Studies in middle and elementary school focuses on information literacy, digital citizenship, computer studies, keyboarding and fostering a love of reading and learning. SSPJ’s Media Center will be a vital learning space that empowers students with the knowledge, skills, and resources to become lifelong learners and informed citizens in the digital age.
